MASSIVE
So, I have to mention this to someone. I am so excited, so thrilled. I am producing Liz Carlisle’s next album down in Nashville and get to work with someone I had dreamed of working with… Bart Pursley. He is the genius behind the Big & Rich and Gretchen Wilson records.
Well, I just had to tell someone, so I figured I would post it on my blog that not too many people read. lol
later guys

Blahg blahg blahg
This entry will be completely random and perhaps lacking in structure, content, meaning… it will be a lot like what we have come to know as “life.”
What can I say… I used to write a lot. More goes on lately in my dreams than in my waking hours. I have horrible sleep. Night terrors, nightmares, insomnia. It comes and goes throughout my life. I can tell you it is maddening. All I want is a night of peace, rest, sleep. It is so out my reach, completely unattainable. So, I reach out to the pharmaceutical community…
Ativan™
Ambien™
Lunesta™
I actually don’t trust Lunesta™. How can any company who spends that much money on an advertising campaign actually be trustworthy. Anyone ever try the stuff? As far as I know, Ambien™ puts me to sleep and keeps me there, but no doctor I have met will write me a full time script. Their reasoning: it is addictive.
Ok, so let me get this straight… there is a drug that actually lets me get to sleep, keeping me asleep peacefully throughout the night for 8 uninterupted hours, with no druggy hangover, allowing me to wake up refreshed and energetic feeling 10 years younger… And you won’t give me a prescription because I may become addicted to that??? Addicted to… ACTUALLY SLEEPING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS. Hmmmm, yeah that sounds like something to steer clear of.
Anyway, I am graduating from Harvard in a couple of months. I know, bizarre. I am getting a pro-sumer digital SLR camera. When I see you next, I will take a wacky picture of you with some weirdo fisheye lens.
The van must go. Replacing it with a RAV4 V6 (the MANLY RAV4). Manly why? How about 270hp? That’s what I thought.
Anyway, I am at work… the shitty job sucking every ounce of my life away from 9-5, M-F. I cannot wait to leave this fucking place!
With love
RW

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
What a great start to the new year for us. We were playing at First Night Missoula. We had about 200 people in a room with 150 standing outside listening that couldn’t fit. This will be a very exciting year for both Liz and myself. Her career is really getting a boost from the airplay and the hometown crowd. We are working on upcoming touring all over the Northeast, St. Lucia, Nashville, Montana, Texas, California, and Hawaii. Who knows what’s next…
STAY TUNED!

What I Miss About Montana…
Well where do I start…
First of all, Liz is a local celeb out there. So, we played all the commercial radio station’s morning shows, and a couple of indie shows. Then we played 3 actual concerts in town. 2 of them had a huge group of people (aprox 150 in one case) that were not able to get in. When we return, we will be in a larger space.
While all that was wonderful, here are some real highlights:
• Hiked to the top of Mt. Sentinal
• Got an incredible down jacket from Mountain Hardwear that weighs less than a pound!!!
• Got a pair of Keens… don’t know them? go to http://www.keenfootwear.com/ and check out the Newports
• Found a great deal post-Christmas on poker chips, saved 70%
• Hung out in a club that serves “brains and eggs” which is in fact scrambled eggs and cow brains
• Got my ass kicked in basketball by Liz
• Learned that there is a Casino on every corner in Missoula, MT (played poker accordingly)
• Played poker one night in the smoky “OX” (same place as the brains n’ eggs)
• Saw someone from the game the next morning… he had a black eye and walked with a limp (I had been warned it was a rough game)
• Took three flights in one hellish day of travel to get home (there’s a first for everything)
There you have it. My trip in a nutshell.

Christmas in Montana
So, here I am, in big sky country. I have to say… the sky is not that big here, and people don’t seem overly interested in country. Regardless, it is a beautiful place to spend the holidays and perform. The is Liz’s hometown so the reception has been pretty warm here. Unfortunately, so have the temperatures. While I did not look forward to the -30 degree temps they had a few weeks ago, some snow and perhaps below 32 degree weather would have been appropriate for the season.
I never talked about Nashville… or anything else recently. What about St. Lucia? Where to start…
Well, St. Lucia was amazing. It would take me a long time to describe how beautiful a place it was. If you have ever been there you know exactly what I mean. I cannot wait to get back there, back to the beaches, back to the warm water, back to the laid back way of life. And they were so happy to hear our music there.
Nashville… “Music City USA” Always fun. My brother (who just got engaged) is from there. As is the band he works for (Big & Rich). They were on break from their tour, so I thought we would schedule our show there when he would be in town. Sure enough, he made plans to travel to NY to see the family the day before we left for Nashville and he returned there the same day we left. I did get to see him for a couple of hours the night he arrived. I met his wife to be and thought she was just an awesome person. I am very proud of him as always.
Well, Merry Christmas from one of the few Jews in Missoula Montana this morning. Santa even took pity on me and left some gifts under the tree. My hosts tried to prepare for my arrival and got a Menorah. I had to explain that I was such a lousy Jew, I forgot what to say, or when to light, etc.
Oh well. Happy holidays people!!!

2000
I knew it was coming. The 2000th American casualty in Iraq since the beginning of the moronic war in 2003. War is like poker in many ways. But Mr. President, you fucking asshole, when I have made a wrong decision in poker, I fold. Bring our troops back home immediately.

SEARCHING FOR HEATHER. A true story
at this point, i have to believe that i will not hear from the person,
but the story is true and the song i wrote about it is solid.
so, i am already a winner… here is the amazing true story!
searchin for heather… a true story
i am afraid i must out myself here. i internet date sometimes.
there, i said it.
this particular date and i had spoken on and off for a while. we were finally going to meet. the plan was to meet in Davis Square at 7:00PM to grab a low pressure bite to eat. i called her on the phone around 6:00PM to confirm. we had a fun conversation discussing a variety of topics ranging from my growing love for poker to her being a vegan. dinner would be a toss up between thai and american fare. she said she would be running late and asked if it was all right to meet at 7:30PM instead. we agreed on this, then got ready.
i walked into the center of Davis Square at 7:30PM, our agreed upon meeting time and place.
there was a huge rally going on in the middle of the square. the square was very crowded from that group. then, amidst a sea of people, she emerged. it was pretty awesome. she walked right up to me, said hello, and greeted me with a huge, warm, welcoming hug. i haven’t felt a hug like that in forever. she had a great smile, and it was clear we were both so very happy to finally meet each other.
i asked her what the rally was for. she said it was some sort of coalition to stop domestic violence. i joked how that was a shame since i was a such a huge fan of domestic violence. (yes i know, great date line, but it got a laugh)
she then asked if i was hungry (which i was due to the half hour delay). i asked her where she wanted to go. we had been undecided on the phone. she mentioned a great new Tibetan place which I had been meaning to try. I asked her if she had tried the other one in Teele Square. Turns out that was a favorite of both of us. Thai was the other option. I made some hamburger joke (Vegans, you know?) That got no response, surprisingly. So, I just moved on as we walked together towards our Tibetan restaurant.
She asked me how my day was. I talked about work and poker. I said she must love the menu at Tibetan places due to all the Vegan options. At this assertion, she returned a slightly suspicious, puzzled look. She said, “I think you have me confused with some other girl you talk to...”
We continue to walk, but I am confused. I ask her, “don’t you eat vegetarian?” She says again, “You are thinking of someone else...”
Now, I am truly becoming concerned that I have lost my mind, or that this girl is a psycho. I stop her for a minute. We are standing looking at each other. I say, “Ok, now I have to ask you this, because I might be losing my mind...”
me: “we were just talking on the phone before getting together, right?
her: “yes”
me: “and we were talking about where to have dinner, mentioned that Thai place, right?”
her: “yes”
me: “and you were telling me how you were a Vegan and have been for years...”
her: “oh no… ummm.... my name is Heather”
me: “i’m Russell… oh no, we met the wrong people… we are on the WRONG DATE???”
Neither one of us can believe what is happening. I ask her if she was supposed to meet a bald guy. She said she was. I said to her that I remember seeing another bald guy waiting in the square, but i am MUCH cuter. As we were nearing the square, now running late to meet our original dates, i felt like i wanted to know this person more, that this happened for some reason. I left her my info and asked her to email me. I said, “you just have to. nothing like this has ever happened to either of us, and nothing like this ever will again”
I came home after my originally scheduled date and was left wondering what the hell that was all about. I told the story to my female roommate. Even she lost sleep. She sat there in a haze saying, “you HAVE to find this person.” Around 1:00AM I wrote a new song, “Searching for Heather.” I finally got some sleep, but woke up wondering why? How? What? and all those other words that come to us when trying to explain the unexplainable.
